Police in Lusaka have arrested a 22-year-old woman for allegedly producing and circulating obscene videos online.
The suspect has been identified as Rebecca Mulenga, who also uses the Facebook name Metisha Mulenga.
She was detained by a joint team of officers from the Zambia Cyber Security Agency and the Zambia Police Service.
The arrest was confirmed to Kalemba by the Zambia Cyber Security Agency on May 29, 2026.
According to the agency, Mulenga resides in Kamwala South, a suburb of Lusaka.
Investigators believe the videos were produced between May 24 and May 26, 2026, at locations within Lusaka District that have not yet been disclosed.
Authorities say the content depicts indecent acts and was shared across multiple social media platforms, where it quickly went viral.
The Zambia Cyber Security Agency stated that the production and distribution of such material violates the Cyber Security and Cyber Crimes Act No. 4 of 2025.
Under the Act, the offence carries a penalty of up to two years imprisonment and a fine of K80,000, or both.
Officers traced the digital footprint linked to the Facebook account before effecting the arrest at her residence.
Mulenga spent several hours being questioned by police and cybersecurity officials about the origin and distribution of the videos.
She is currently detained at Woodlands Police Station in Lusaka while investigations continue.
The agency confirmed that she is awaiting prosecution and will appear in court once charges are formally filed.
The case has drawn public attention due to the speed at which the videos spread on social media platforms.
Zambia’s Cyber Security Agency has warned that it is intensifying monitoring of online platforms to curb cyber-related offenses.
Authorities urged citizens to avoid sharing, downloading, or distributing obscene content, which is punishable under Zambian law.
The arrest comes amid growing debate in Zambia about digital regulation, online morality, and freedom of expression.
As internet access expands in urban areas like Lusaka, law enforcement says balancing these issues remains a priority.
For now, Mulenga remains in custody as prosecutors prepare the case for the courts.
