Tanzanian elections not credible- SADC observers- Malawi24

The head of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Electoral Observation Mission (SEOM), Richard Msowoya, says Tanzania’s general elections failed to meet the SADC regional body’s standards for democratic elections.

According to Msowoya, the overall conduct of the election fell short of the required principles and guidelines governing democracy.

He highlighted that voters in most areas were unable to exercise their constitutional right to choose a national leader.

Msowoya urged Tanzania to resolve disputes peacefully, emphasizing the importance of using legal channels rather than resorting to threats and violence.

The Tanzania electoral body announced incumbent President Samia Suluhu Hassan as the winner of the October 29, 2025, general elections.

The election was marred by controversy, including an internet shutdown on election day and allegations of opposition presidential contestants being arrested or restrained.

Some Tanzanians took to the streets protesting against Samia Suruhu’s mode of leadership.
