Zomba Central Prison Secondary School has once again made its mark in the 2026 Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) examinations, producing one of the top performers among prison schools.

The School has produced a top candidate with 14 points in the 2026 MSCE examinations, adding to its growing reputation for academic excellence behind prison walls.

Zomba Central Prison Public Relations Officer Yusuf Daniel Ayuba said the performance builds on the school’s achievement last year.

The school’s top candidate scored 16 points in 2025, the highest among schools under the Malawi Prisons Service.

Although Mzuzu Prison recorded the highest overall pass rate among prison schools this year, Zomba Central Prison Secondary School had the highest individual performance.

Its top candidate scored 14 points.

Ayuba said the results reflect the commitment of inmate students and education staff at the institution.

Zomba Central Prison management has since commended the students and teachers for their efforts.

The performance is also being viewed as a sign of progress under the Prisons Transformation Programme.

The programme promotes education and skills development among inmates to support their rehabilitation and reintegration into society.
