Chimaneni widow seeks closure

The widow of late Vice President Saulos Klaus Chilima’s aide-de-camp, Chisomo Chimaneni, has made an emotional appeal to Parliament’s inquiry committee to help bring closure to the questions surrounding the June 10, 2024 plane crash.

Charity Chimaneni told the committee that her family has accepted the loss of her husband, believing that his death was part of God’s plan, but said acceptance does not remove the need for answers about what happened.

She said the continued discussions surrounding the crash have affected her children, who keep asking questions whenever their father’s name is mentioned during the inquiry. Charity appealed to the committee to complete its work so that the family can finally have peace and move forward.

“We want this issue to find closure because my children are always asking when there are inquiries why their father’s name is being mentioned. It gives them many questions,” she told the committee.

Charity said the family has never received a medical report explaining the injuries Chisomo sustained in the crash. She also revealed that although his brother identified the body, the family was not allowed to view his face because of the condition of the remains.

Chisomo served in the Office of the Vice President for nine years as part of the security team responsible for protecting the Vice President. His death left behind a family that is now seeking answers while trying to cope with the loss of a husband and father.

As the parliamentary inquiry continues, Charity’s plea reflects the concerns of many bereaved families: that the investigation should establish the truth and provide the closure needed for them to heal.
