Malawi President Lazarus Chakwera (C) has appointed Michael Usi (L) as the new Vice President. Usi’s appointment follows the untimely death of Saulos Chilima in a plane crash on June 10, 2024. Usi was Chilima’s running mate in the 2019 presidential elections and remained in that position for UTM, the party which Chilima led as president. UTM is part of the governing coalition led by the Malawi Congress Party under the Tonse umbrella.
