Police are investigating UTM vice president Michael Usi over his visit to Mulanje Mission Hospital.
The law enforcers are investigating if Usi is a paid up member of the Medical Council of Malawi.
According to reports, Usi is a trained General Practitioner (GP) in medicine and a paid up member with the Medical Council of Malawi but is not practicing.
On Sunday, Usi who is UTM parliamemtary candidate for the Mulanje Central Constituency and Saulos Chilima’s runningmate in the 2019 elections visited Mulanje Mission Hospital to cheer the sick.
Pictures shared on social media show Usi examining a patient who had complained of his ribs pain. He also gave fizzy drinks to patients at the hospital.
Police say they are investigating Usi’s conduct at the health facility.
But the UTM runningmate told the local media that he knows police are investigating the issue but is not afraid of getting arrested.
“I have also heard about it but I am not moved at all,” he said.
Before joining politics, Usi was country director of Adventist Development and Relief Agency (Adra) Malawi.
