The Malawi Government has dismissed claims that it is delaying construction of more technical colleges in order to open the colleges in 2019 and use them for campaign.
This is coming at a time when some quarters have been complaining that government is delaying in constructing technical colleges in their areas so that the colleges should be opened in 2019 when there will be general elections.
But minister of labour, youth and manpower development Henry Mussa said they have not yet constructed technical colleges in some areas because of financial hiccups.
“We have not yet constructed technical colleges in some parts of the country because of financial problems but once funds are available all districts might have a technical college,” Mussa said.
He added that due to the financial problems government is facing, in some areas the ministry want to use already existing buildings as technical colleges.
Mussa further said that technical colleges are a national issue aimed at making sure that youths in the country have something to do.
However, it has been observed that in some technical colleges students are not studying well due to lack of school materials as well as the problem of electricity.
