The annual event which is organized by the Mulanje Mountain Conservation Trust (MMCT) falls on 9th July 2016 at Likhubula Valley in Mulanje district.
Described as one of the biggest sporting events in Malawi, Mount Mulanje Porters Race attracted more than 300 runners in 2015.
The event which started in 1996, will clock 20 years and participants will have to cover a 22 km distance in less than three hours.
Just like last year, the organizers have partnered with Save the Children Malawi for a global campaign under the theme of ‘Save the Forests of Mount Mulanje: Serve Every Last Child of Malawi’.
According to event organizer Kondwani Chamwala, all the participants will be requested to pay a small registration fee.
Last year, winners Charles Musowa and Doreece Fisher received K150 000 each, with the runners up receiving K100 000. K75 000 went to third placed athletes whilst K50 000 and K40 000 went to the fourth and fifth athletes respectively.
Athletes from across Africa, Europe and Asia are expected to take part in the event.
