A moment of play between a father and his five-month-old son has ended in tragedy after the baby slipped from his father’s hands and died in Machinga.
The baby, Rafick Maulidi, was being played with by his father, Blessing Maulidi, in Chindenga Village under Senior Chief Nsanama when the accident happened.
According to Liwonde Police Deputy Public Relations Officer Liznet Khathumba, the father was tossing the baby into the air when Rafick accidentally slipped from his hands and fell to the ground.
The family rushed the baby to Machinga District Hospital in the hope that doctors could save him.
But their hopes were shattered when Rafick died while receiving treatment at the hospital.
Police have since arrested Blessing as investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding the tragic death.
