Kunkuyu urges technical students to use skills for Malawi’s development

Dedza South legislator Moses Kunkuyu has challenged young people undergoing technical training to use their skills to create opportunities for themselves and contribute to Malawi’s development.

The former information Minister made the call on Sunday when he visited 45 students he sponsored from his constituency to pursue technical training at One for All Technical College in Zomba.

The visit was aimed at assessing the progress of the students and finding out how the skills they are acquiring will benefit them after completing their semester.

Kunkuyu expressed satisfaction with the training after observing some practical work being done by the students.

He urged the students to return to their communities after completing their courses and put their skills to productive use instead of waiting for formal employment.

“You must use the skills you are gaining to contribute to the development of Malawi. When you return home, do not just sit and wait for jobs. Create something with the skills you have acquired,” Kunkuyu said.

He said investing in technical education was important because it gives young people practical skills that can help them earn a living while addressing some of the country’s development needs.

Kunkuyu also donated K500,000 to the students to support them in their training.

Melisha Sauzande, a fashion designing student and president of the college, thanked Kunkuyu for giving them the opportunity to study at the institution, saying the training had changed their outlook on the future.

“Through this opportunity, we have gained skills that will help us transform our future and become self-reliant,” Sauzande said.

Another student, Jawadu Samuel, said the college had already equipped them with practical skills that could benefit them and the wider community.

One for All Technical College director James Kajawo said the institution’s vision was to equip young people with practical skills that could enable them to become productive and self-reliant members of society.

Kajawo said the college was committed to providing students with hands-on training so that they could apply what they learn beyond the classroom.

“Our vision is to produce young people who can use their hands and knowledge to create solutions and opportunities in their communities. We believe technical skills can change lives when students are given the right training and support,” Kajawo said.

He encouraged the students to take their training seriously and use the skills they acquire to improve their lives and contribute to the development of their communities and the country.
