UK varsity approves only two Malawi universities

Only graduates from two Malawian universities are eligible to use their qualifications for direct consideration into postgraduate programmes at one United Kingdom university.

Edge Hill University in England has listed the University of Malawi (UNIMA) and Mzuzu University (MZUNI) as the only Malawian institutions whose master’s degrees are recognised for entry into its postgraduate programmes.

According to the university’s country-specific admission requirements published on its website, applicants from Malawi seeking admission to postgraduate courses should hold a master’s degree from either MZUNI or the UNIMA with a Grade 4, equivalent to 60 to 69 percent, before they can be considered for admission.-

The university published the information as part of its country-specific admissions guidance for international students applying from Malawi.

The admissions page does not mention any other Malawian university under its postgraduate entry requirements.

The guidance is part of Edge Hill University’s information for international applicants and also includes entry requirements for foundation and undergraduate programmes.

Edge Hill University says entry requirements may vary depending on the course and advises applicants to check the requirements for their chosen programme before applying.

Malawi has several public and private universities accredited by the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE), the body responsible for regulating higher education institutions in the country.

The published guidance outlines the qualifications Edge Hill University currently accepts from applicants in Malawi, while individual programmes may have additional admission requirements.
