The African Harmony Collective (AHC) has trained various stakeholders in Zomba District in peacebuilding and conflict mediation skills aimed at reducing disputes and promoting harmony in communities.
The four-day training brought together representatives from non-governmental organisations, child protection services, the health sector, women’s groups, the police, youth organisations, schools, the legal profession and environmental agencies.
Speaking during the closing ceremony, AHC Co-founder Suzanne Sherkin said the training was designed to equip participants with knowledge and practical skills that will enable them to mediate conflicts and pass on the lessons to others within their communities.
Sherkin said peaceful and harmonious communities are essential for development and national progress, adding that conflicts often hinder social and economic growth.
She expressed confidence that the participants would use the skills acquired to bring positive change in their respective areas.
“The African Harmony Collective remains committed to supporting women economically and promoting development in rural communities through peacebuilding initiatives,” she said.
Speaking on behalf of the participating non-governmental organisations, Pacharo Namatumbo described the training as timely and valuable, saying the skills gained would help stakeholders address conflicts more effectively in their communities.
He said participants would also share the knowledge with others to widen the reach of peacebuilding efforts.
Youth representative Pemphero Ching’oma said the training had equipped him with important mediation skills that will help him guide and support people involved in conflicts.
He said the knowledge gained would enable him to contribute to peaceful conflict resolution and strengthen unity within his community.
