Former UTM Publicity Secretary Joseph Chidanti-Malunga has resigned from the party with immediate effect, saying he can no longer pursue his political ambitions while remaining a member.
In a resignation letter dated July 14, 2026 and addressed to the UTM Secretary General, Chidanti-Malunga said he made the decision after careful personal reflection on his political future.
“I have concluded that my political aspirations can no longer be adequately served within this Party,” he wrote.
He asked the party leadership to treat the letter as his formal resignation from all party activities and requested that his name be removed from all membership registers and official party records.
Chidanti-Malunga previously served as UTM’s Publicity Secretary during the party’s 2019-2020 election campaign.
His resignation comes as Malawi’s political parties continue to experience shifts in membership ahead of future electoral contests.
In October 2025, shortly after the general elections, former presidential advisor Newton Kambala resigned from his advisory role in UTM, citing concerns over the effectiveness of the party’s strategic decision-making and direction.
Malunga once served as an Independent parliamentarian for Nsanje South West constituency from 2014 to 2019.
UTM had not publicly commented on Chidanti-Malunga’s resignation at the time of publication.
