Wiseman M’dumuka produced a clinical display in front of goal, scoring a hat-trick as Silver Strikers Youth defeated Masters Youth 7-1 in the first leg of the FED STEEL Engineering Under-19 Tournament at Silver Stadium on Saturday.
The forward spearheaded an impressive attacking performance from the hosts, who established control of the contest early before taking a 3-1 lead into the halftime break.
M’dumuka’s treble was complemented by goals from Andrew Charles, Nulu Jana, Manase Mambo and Rahim Wilesi as Silver Youth put themselves in a strong position ahead of the return leg.
Masters Youth briefly threatened a comeback when captain Blessings Butao pulled one back to make it 2-1, but Silver Youth maintained their dominance and added further goals to complete a convincing victory.
The result gives Silver Strikers Youth a significant advantage heading into the second leg, with M’dumuka’s hat-trick proving the highlight of an entertaining morning of youth football.
Despite the setback, Masters Youth coach Nelson Mphande praised his players’ effort and acknowledged the challenge posed by a more experienced Silver Youth side.
“It is a lesson for us. Our team is new to youth football, while our opponents have been playing together for a long time,” said Mphande.
“We have identified areas that need improvement and will work hard ahead of the second leg.”
The two sides will meet again at Mphungu Ground in Area 12, where Masters Youth will be hoping to produce a stronger display, while Silver Youth seek to build on their commanding first-leg advantage.
