A total of 185 students who completed their studies and received Diplomas from the Domasi Institute of Management and Technology (DIMT) in Zomba have been advised to resist corruption and become innovators in their respective fields.
Speaking during the graduation ceremony held at Robins Park in Zomba City, the college’s Principal, Alfred Gulani, advised the graduates not to rely solely on being employed by others.
He encouraged them to start their own businesses and create employment opportunities for fellow young people, thereby helping the Malawi government reduce poverty.
The ceremony was held under the theme: “Excellence through Knowledge and Innovation.”
Gulani urged the graduates to make good use of the knowledge they have acquired in their workplaces and to introduce new ideas and skills that can help solve some of the challenges facing Malawi.
He expressed his happiness that DIMT had produced a large number of graduates this year and said the institution would continue training young people to become innovators in their communities.
“We will continue equipping young people with various forms of knowledge so that they can help reduce some of the challenges facing the country, such as unemployment,” he said.
Speaking as the guest speaker at the event, the Member of Parliament for Zomba Malosa constituency, Grace Kwelepeta, encouraged the graduates to establish their own businesses and take advantage of youth loan programs available in their constituencies to expand their enterprises.
Kwelepeta praised DIMT for enrolling both male and female students, saying this supports gender equality and helps make the 50–50 campaign easier to achieve.
Speaking on behalf of her fellow graduates, Stella Salomy Maxwell, who received a Diploma in Nutrition, Food Security and Sustainable Development, said she plans to use the knowledge she gained to start various businesses while waiting for employment opportunities.
