Bankers challenged to embrace fitness- Malawi24

Bankers in Malawi have been challenged to prioritise physical fitness as a key part of workplace performance and well-being, during this year’s Bankers Sports Day held at Silver Stadium.

Governor of the Reserve Bank of Malawi, George Partridge, said the event should go beyond competition and serve as a reminder that fitness is essential for stronger teamwork, better health, and improved productivity in the banking sector.

“Beyond promoting physical fitness, this event provides an important platform for interaction, knowledge-sharing and building lasting relationships among staff from different banking institutions,” he said.

His message came as FDH Bank plc emerged overall champions of the tournament, showing dominance across both team and individual events.

FDH Bank plc excelled in tug of war, winning both men’s and women’s categories, and secured strong finishes in football, netball and basketball.

The bank also impressed in individual events, collecting top honours in disciplines such as the 10-kilometre race, chess, weightlifting, cycling and others, with Kondwani Phiri named basketball MVP.

FDH Bank plc Public Relations Manager Lorraine Chikhula said the win reflects the bank’s focus on employee wellness and teamwork, saying staff participation in sports helps build a healthier and more motivated workforce.

“This achievement reflects our strong team spirit and dedication beyond the workplace. We are proud of our staff for their outstanding performance and enthusiasm, which continues to set us apart,” said Chikhula.

She added that participation in such events plays a critical role in fostering teamwork, promoting wellness and strengthening relationships among employees.
