19-year-old woman found dead in apparent suicide, discovered by 4-year-old daughter

A 19-year-old woman, identified as Marriam Green, was found dead on 5 May 2026 in Mtsiliza, Lilongwe, in an apparent case of suicide.

Deputy Public Relations Officer for Lingadzi Police Station, Sergeant Glory Kondowe, confirmed the incident.

According to police reports, the deceased, who was married with two children, was alone at home after her husband had left for business in town earlier that day.

At approximately 10:30 a.m., she was discovered by her four-year-old daughter, hanging from the roof inside their house.

Police officers, accompanied by a medical officer from Area 18 Health Centre, visited the scene following the report.

A postmortem examination later determined the cause of death to be suffocation due to hanging.

Authorities have stated that no foul play is suspected.Marriam Green hailed from Mtondo Village under Traditional Authority Kaomba in Kasungu District.

Police have urged the public to seek counseling and support during times of emotional distress and to remain attentive to signs of mental health struggles among family members.
