Karonga District Hospital on Friday held an awards ceremony to honour exceptional staff members as part of efforts to motivate health workers and strengthen service delivery in the district.
Speaking after the ceremony, Karonga District Commissioner Willard Mwambo said the initiative seeks to boost staff morale and encourage continued provision of quality healthcare services.

“Our focus is not only on the workers but also on the service users. These cadres are doing a lot of work in the district and are saving many lives through quality healthcare delivery. To boost morale, we planned to award those with outstanding performance,” he said.
Mwambo also disclosed plans to extend the initiative to other sectors such as agriculture, education and the secretariat, with the aim of improving service delivery across the district.
One of the awardees, Dickson Kaferamo, a nursing officer in the postnatal ward, applauded the District Health Office and the council for the recognition, describing it as the first initiative of its kind at the institution.

He said hard work and teamwork are crucial in improving patient care at the hospital.
Director of Health and Sanitation Services David Sibale said the awards ceremony, which the office has initiated for the first time, is aimed at motivating staff for their dedication and hard work in the provision of health services.
The ceremony was sponsored by First Capital Bank as the core sponsor, with support from Standard Bank and National Bank.
Guest of Honour, Council Chairperson Councillor Atusaye Mwenifumbo, also contributed K200,000 towards supporting hospital drivers.
