Malawi’s Second Vice President, Enock Chihana, has called on citizens to remain united and uphold a spirit of fairness as the country works toward becoming a developed nation.
He emphasized the importance of collective effort, urging Malawians to work together for the common good.
Chihana made the remarks in a statement released in line with the message delivered by President Peter Mutharika during the commemoration of International Workers’ Day.
The day is observed globally to recognize and celebrate the contributions of workers across various sectors.
In his message, Chihana commended workers in Malawi for their dedication and commitment to advancing the country’s development.
He noted that their efforts continue to play a crucial role in shaping the nation’s progress.
He also paid tribute to different groups of workers, including farmers, teachers, health workers, construction workers, drivers, artisans, civil servants, and business people. According to Chihana, their hard work and skills form the backbone of Malawi’s development.
The Vice President further stressed that the government recognizes the importance of workers and remains committed to promoting decent jobs, fair wages, and the protection of workers’ rights.
He assured that efforts are ongoing to improve working conditions across the country.
“Government recognizes your role and remains committed to creating and promoting decent jobs, fair wages, and protecting workers’ rights,” he said in the statement.
Malawi has joined other countries around the world in commemorating International Workers’ Day, honoring and appreciating the contributions of workers who continue to drive the nation’s growth.
