In a direct appeal to Malawians, the president of the United Transformation Movement (UTM), Dalitso Kabambe has called for an end to the politics of hatred and division and said the country’s hardships demand maturity and shared responsibility.
Through his official Facebook page, Kabambe addressed the people of Malawi as a fellow citizen, not as an opposition leader and he said he shares the pain and hardship they are going through and he is deeply concerned about the divisions that threaten to pull the nation apart.
“Today, I stand before you not as an opposition leader, but as a fellow son of this great nation, burdened by the pain, the hardships, and the divisions that threaten to tear us apart.” he said.
He noted that many families are finding it hard to afford basic needs and many businesses are struggling to survive.
He said the strong mistrust and bitterness between people are also major problems.
Kabambe believes these challenges cannot be solved through rivalry and instead need everyone to work together.
“Our problems are not insurmountable; they are a call to us all to come together, to put aside petty politics, and to embrace maturity and responsibility,” he said.
Kabambe called on leaders in both government and the opposition to act as guardians of the nation’s future and appealed to them to put Malawi ahead of personal interests and urged both sides to work together as partners for the country’s growth and not to treat each other as enemies.
