Mighty Wanderers claimed a historic victory over FCB Nyasa Big Bullets, securing the Charity Shield with a narrow but decisive 1-0 win in a tightly contested encounter.
The opening stages saw limited clear chances, with Mighty Wanderers managing just two early shots on target, both of which were comfortably handled by goalkeeper Innocent Nyasulu. Bullets soon responded with intent, looking to assert control in midfield.
A major turning point came in the 14th minute when Wanderers were awarded a penalty after Sama Thierry Tajong was fouled in the box. However, Isaac Kaliati struck the post, and the rebound was cleared, keeping the score level.
Both sides continued to push forward, creating half-chances based on theming to convert. Wanderers came closest before the break, with a well-worked move ending in a shot that drifted just wide, as the first half ended goalless.
The breakthrough arrived shortly after the restart when Tajong capitalized on a rebound, heading home after Nyasulu had initially saved a powerful strike from Gaddie Chirwa.
Bullets pressed for an equalizer in the closing stages but were unable to break down a resilient Wanderers defense, with their efforts repeatedly thwarted.
The victory marks Wanderers’ first-ever Charity Shield triumph after four previous unsuccessful attempts, while Bullets suffered their first defeat in the competition after winning their prior seven appearances.
