Masters Football Club head coach Peter Mponda says his side is taking shape around a deliberate blend of youth and experience as the team prepares for the upcoming FDH Premiership campaign.
Mponda says the ongoing rebuild is centered on creating balance within the squad, with senior players expected to provide leadership. In contrast, younger players bring energy and long-term potential to the team.
He explains that the project has required patience and structure, as the club was assembled from scratch and is still developing its identity and playing philosophy ahead of competing in the top flight.
“It’s been a huge task to build this team to this level, I knew when I was coming that it wouldn’t be an easy job because there was no team, we started building from scratch,” said Mponda.
Despite the challenges, Mponda says he is encouraged by how quickly the players are adapting to his demands and tactical expectations during the preseason period.
He adds that friendly matches have been used mainly as assessment tools, focusing on identifying weaknesses rather than chasing results.
With the FDH Premiership season approaching, the coach says the squad is increasingly motivated as players embrace the intensity and competitiveness of match situations ahead of the new campaign.
