Health officials in Zomba are encouraging young people to take advantage of free medical services available at local hospitals, particularly at Domasi Hospital.

Speaking during an outreach event held at Domasi College of Education sports ground, Memory Evance, a nurse responsible for family planning services at Zomba District Health Office, urged youth to seek medical care.

She emphasized the importance of accessing services such as treatment for sexually transmitted infections, family planning, post-abortion care, and general health check-ups, including blood tests.

The event was organized by Her Liberty in partnership with the Girls Activist Youth Organization (GAYO), with the aim of raising awareness among young people about the importance of seeking professional healthcare, especially after undergoing abortion procedures, in line with medical guidelines.

Evance highlighted that visiting health facilities not only provides treatment but also offers counseling and support, which are essential for young people’s overall well-being.

“We encourage young people around Domasi to visit the hospital and access these free services, including blood testing and family planning support,” she said.

Kettie Mikwala, Programs Manager for Her Liberty, explained that the organization is working to bring health services closer to young people through community outreach initiatives. She noted that the project aims to reach more than 10,000 youths.

Masimo Mkwalamaso, a youth chairperson in the Domasi area, expressed appreciation for the initiative, saying it has made health services more accessible to young people in the community.

The outreach is part of a project titled “Enhancing the Reproductive Health Outcomes for Women and Girls,” implemented by Her Liberty in collaboration with GAYO, with support from Amplify Change.
