It’s like Jamaican artist Busy Signal jumping on Amapiano beat, he’s still reggae dancehall – IKK
IKK is facing heat for blending hip-hop with traditional Malawian rhythms, but he remains unbothered.
The artist and Pon G have just dropped “Ukamva,” a bold new track that challenges genre boundaries by fusing the “Chitelera” sound with modern rap.
The instrumentation draws on traditional Malawian sounds, putting local culture at the forefront and bringing the country’s unique flavor to the map.
As expected, with a morale-driven, danceable beat, the song is set to take over at various entertainment events, turning heads and keeping the crowd moving.
The message of “Ukamva” captures a feeling of euphoria, making it the perfect track to mesmerize crowds at any partying occasion.
Despite the criticism, IKK told Malawi24 that although he does hip hop, he cannot allow Malawian traditional music to go unnoticed.
In particular, he explained:“It’s like Jamaican artist Busy Signal jumping on an Amapiano beat,he’s still reggae dancehall, just on a different rhythm.”
In other words, artists can experiment without forgetting their roots.
Furthermore, he said he is determined not to sugarcoat issues because “the truth is a bitter pill” when people keep slacking in the music scene. He added, “I’m pushing culture forward like a drumbeat that keeps time.”
