Tributes Pour In for Father Francis Damaseke, Dedicated Priest of the Archdiocese of Lilongwe
The Catholic Secretariat of the Malawi Conference of Catholic Bishops (MCCB) has announced the death of Reverend Father Francis Damaseke, a priest from Manyani Parish of the Archdiocese of Lilongwe, who passed away on 11th April 2026 after battling pneumonia for over two weeks at a hospital in Area 17, Lilongwe.
Tributes have been flowing in from clergy, parishioners, and members of the public who knew Father Damaseke as a man of exceptional dedication and spiritual depth. Monsignor Patrick Thawale, who confirmed the news, described him as one of the most committed priests in the Archdiocese — a man full of teachings whose passing leaves a significant gap.
“One of the most dedicated priests, full of teachings.” — Msgr. Patrick Thawale
Born on 27th September 1986, Father Damaseke was ordained to the priesthood on 9th July 2016. In the decade that followed, he served faithfully across several parishes and institutions: Mlale Parish (2016–2017), Chilinde Parish (2017–2019), St. Patrick’s Parish (2019–2021), the MCCB Secretariat (2021–2024) — where he served as National Communications and Research Coordinator, National Family Apostolate Coordinator, and National Youth Chaplain — and most recently Nathenje Parish, where he served as Curate from 2024 until his death.
At the time of his passing, Father Damaseke had been due to pursue further studies at Boston College in the United States of America — a chapter of his life that will now remain unwritten.
His body is currently at Likuni Mortuary pending the burial programme.
BURIAL PROGRAMME — 14TH APRIL 2026
Requiem Mass at Likuni Parish commencing at 9:30 AM, followed by burial at Likuni Priests’ Cemetery.
Eternal rest grant unto Rev. Fr. Francis Damaseke, O Lord. And let perpetual light shine upon him. May his soul, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.
