The Small Producers Development and Transportation Association (SPRODETA), in collaboration with its partners, has unveiled the Tili Limodzi Coalition Initiative to the District Executive Committee in Karonga as part of efforts to mitigate the growing impacts of climate change on communities.
Speaking during the presentation on Thursday, SPRODETA Executive Director Allen Kumwenda said the organisation has observed that many development projects fail to deliver long-term benefits because floods and other climate shocks frequently damage or destroy interventions.

“SPRODETA is currently implementing trade and resilient building projects for vulnerable populations in Karonga District.
“However, monitoring and evaluation findings show that some initiatives have stalled while others have been damaged due to heavy rainfall and related disasters,” Kumwenda said.
He explained that the Tili Limodzi Coalition Initiative is a joint effort aimed at strengthening community resilience and ensuring the sustainability of development projects.
The coalition brings together partners including Action for Environment Sustainability, Robotics Foundation Limited, and Needed Action for Community Care, among others.
Through this initiative, partners aim to enhance coordination, promote climate-smart programming, and improve community preparedness so that development gains are protected from climate-related disasters.
The pilot phase of the four-year project will be implemented in Karonga, Chikwawa, and Salima districts.
The project scope includes conducting needs assessments through mapping flood-affected areas, installing and maintaining flood early-warning systems, strengthening the capacity of Village Disaster Risk Management Committees, and rehabilitating boreholes into flood-proofed water sources.
