Kamangila, I will take you head-on” – Malondera

MP says K2.3 billion is not enough for Ministry of Sports- Malawi24

Public Accounts Committee (PAC) chairperson Steven Malondera has vowed to confront whistleblower Alexious Kamangila over allegations that Malondera received millions of kwacha in bribes to “bury the truth” in the ongoing Amaryllis Hotel inquiry.

Kamangila recently lodged a complaint with the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), accusing Malondera and members of the parliamentary committee of pocketing K65 million to influence the outcome of investigations into the controversial hotel deal.

Malondera made the remarks on Wednesday as he confirmed that the committee has extended its inquiry by one month, delaying the presentation of its findings to Parliament.

He said the decision to reopen the process was aimed at ensuring transparency and allowing more stakeholders to present evidence.

“We have reopened the inquiry to give those who want to communicate an opportunity to do so,” he said.

The development comes a day after Kamangila accused Malondera of receiving MK65 million to influence the inquiry and shield individuals linked to the controversial transaction.

In response, Malondera dismissed the allegations, insisting his conscience was clear and challenging Kamangila to produce proof. “I am still waiting for that receipt he said he would provide,” he said.

Malondera further alleged that Kamangila attempted to interfere with the inquiry by pushing personal questions and trying to influence the direction of proceedings.

He claimed Kamangila even asked him to withhold and alter the report before it was tabled in Parliament, a request he said he rejected outright.

“At an opportune time, I will take him head-on so Malawians can see the truth,” Malondera said.

Kamangila, however, has maintained his position, arguing that the committee compromised its integrity and calling for investigations by the Anti-Corruption Bureau and police.

The standoff has intensified scrutiny over the PAC inquiry, with Parliament now awaiting the outcome of the extended investigation amid growing public interest.
