Malawian music star Patience Namadingo says he nearly became another Evison Matafale, who died in what many described as a politically instigated death, after facing intense pressure during the MCP era.
Namadingo dropped a bombshell on his Facebook page, revealing that he once considered fleeing the country as mounting pressure nearly cost him his life.
In a chilling account, the outspoken artist known for his philanthropic initiatives said his demands for accountability and willingness to question authority placed him in a dangerous position, leaving him with two stark options: exile or death. He said his only lifeline came with Peter Mutharika’s victory over President Lazarus Chakwera, ending MCP’s rule and easing the pressure that had pushed him to the brink.

“When they said Prof. Peter Mutharika had won the election, I cancelled my plan to go into exile — otherwise, I was done. Kufunsafunsa mafunso kunatikwilira…” said Namadingo.
The remarks have sent shockwaves across social media, with thousands of Malawians reacting to his post on Facebook.
Namadingo, known for his bold voice both in music and public discourse, suggested that his outspoken nature made him a target during the previous administration. The artist did not name those he believes were behind the pressure to take out his life.
The MCP has not yet responded to the claims.
Meanwhile, renowned activist Alexious Kamangila has accused Namadingo of being used as a conduit by a business magnate for money laundering. The musician has not responded to the claims.
