“Not everyone who smiles at you is on your side”: IB the King’s new single exposes betrayal
IB the King, a Malawian–South African based artist, has released a new single that serves as a warning about betrayal by people who pose as close friends.
The track, inspired by his observations of people speaking ill of others when they are not present, urges listeners to be vigilant about whom they call friends, a reminder that not everyone who smiles at you is on your side.
Consequently, the single is currently trending on TikTok and YouTube and features female singer Atupele; the music video includes Taurai Mache Yvone.
Its message cuts through the noise like a knife through butter, laying bare the sting of false friendship.
Moreover, this new release follows a string of successful singles: IB the King’s debut, “#Celebu,” which came out on 28 February last year and performed well commercially, and “#Nthawi,” released six months later and featuring the talented Kay Blessings.
Together, these tracks build momentum for his upcoming album, The Return of King, which is scheduled for release in two months.
As a result of the growing online attention, social-media traction on platforms like TikTok and YouTube is helping broaden IB the King’s audience across Malawi and South Africa.
With the album, he aims to rebuild trust and claim his place in the scene, a phoenix rising from the ashes.
Looking ahead, fans can expect official album release details, pre-order options, and further promotional events or collaborations to be announced soon.
