Beauty with a mission: “Your Future Is in School,” Says Miss Malawi Thandi Chisi to Chadza girls
Miss Malawi 2025, Thandi Chisi, has urged girls in rural communities to remain focused on their education, emphasizing its importance for both personal success and national development.
She made the appeal on Friday while serving as Guest of Honor at a Girls’ Leadership Session in Mwenda, Traditional Authority Chadza in Lilongwe, an event organized by the Foundation for Girls’ Leadership with support from Oxfam in Malawi.
Drawing on her own experience, Chisi explained how education opened doors for her: she attended Likuni Girls (scoring 9 points) and later graduated from the University of Malawi with a credit.Consequently, she said, education has enabled her to contribute meaningfully to society , including by running an organization that employs young people.
Chisi also called on parents and guardians to play their part, emphasizing that community support is essential if girls are to stay in school.
In the same vein, she praised the Foundation for Girls’ Leadership for extending mentorship programs into rural areas, noting that such initiatives can inspire girls who have dropped out to return and pursue their goals.
Commenting on the program, Memory Banda, Executive Director of the Foundation for Girls’ Leadership, said the Oxfam-funded mentorship scheme aims to encourage girls to complete their education and assume leadership roles.
The session drew participants from across TA Chadza and formed part of ongoing community-level efforts to promote girls’ empowerment.
