The Member of Parliament for Zomba City South, James Mpunga, has extended support to residents whose homes were destroyed by heavy rains by providing food items, including rice, soya pieces, and sugar.

During a visit to families currently staying at Chambo Evacuation Center, Mpunga expressed deep concern over the unexpected disaster that has led to widespread house collapses in the area.

He stated that he has already engaged the Department of Disaster Management Affairs (DoDMA) to ensure further assistance is provided to those affected.

Mpunga also called on organizations and well-wishers to step in and support the victims with food and other essential supplies.

Additionally, he urged people living in flood-prone areas to relocate to safer, higher ground to avoid future disasters.

“All wards in Zomba City South have been affected, and many people are now without shelter. It is heartbreaking to see children suffering and sleeping on the ground,” he said.

Speaking on behalf of the displaced families at Chambo Evacuation Center, Aida Yunus expressed gratitude for the assistance, noting that there are times when families go to bed without food.
