Zamba key to Amaryllis Hotel inquiry – Mhango

Former Secretary to the President and Cabinet Colleen Zamba is central to the Parliamentary Public Accounts Committee (PAC) inquiry into the controversial Amaryllis Hotel purchase, Leader of Parliament Jappie Mhango said Friday.

Mhango said Zamba’s testimony is likely to provide the clearest insights into the transaction, which involved the government under former Malawi Congress Party (MCP) leader Lazarus Chakwera.

“From my own assessment, the key person that should probably give us more insights would be the former chief secretary,” Mhango said. “She played a central role in the transaction from the beginning through the end of last year.”

While several officials have been summoned to the inquiry, Mhango noted that Zamba’s role makes her testimony particularly critical.

He added that the PAC is awaiting Zamba’s availability, as she is currently out of the country.

Mhango emphasized that her insights are essential for understanding the details of the purchase and ensuring transparency.
