Fix flood-damaged Nkhata Bay Port, Vuwa urges

Flood-damaged Nkhata Bay Port needs urgent repairs, says Vuwa.

Member of Parliament for Nkhata Bay Central, Symon Vuwa Kaunda, has called on government to urgently rehabilitate Nkhata Bay Port after it was extensively damaged by heavy rains that triggered flooding.

Speaking in Parliament on Friday, Kaunda stated that the floods, caused by persistent rainfall, have left the port infrastructure in a deteriorated state, disrupting operations and necessitating immediate intervention.

“The port has been badly affected by floods following heavy rains, and it now requires urgent government intervention to restore its condition,” said Kaunda.

He appealed to authorities to prioritise the facility under ongoing infrastructure rehabilitation efforts, stressing its importance to local economic activity and transport.

Kaunda, however, welcomed the allocation of K5 billion per constituency in the national budget, describing it as a timely opportunity to address pressing development needs.

He commended the leadership of Arthur Peter Mutharika and the Ministry of Finance for advancing the initiative, which he said empowers constituencies to implement projects independently.

The legislator outlined plans to invest the funds in road construction, health facilities, education infrastructure and other public services, including procurement of an ambulance to improve service delivery.
