About 2,500 households in Zomba have been affected by heavy rains, according to a preliminary report.
One fatality has been recorded involving a man who attempted to cross a flooded river in Traditional Authority Ramusi.
Nearly all Traditional Authorities in the district have been impacted, with Kuntumanji, Nkagula, Mwambo, Ramusi, Chikowi, and Malemia among the hardest hit areas.

Disaster Risk Management Officer Violet Jimu confirmed that five evacuation camps have been established.
“Many houses have collapsed, but we are still in the process of collecting comprehensive data,” said Jimu.
Zomba is one of several districts in the Southern Region experiencing the effects of heavy rainfall.
