“These leaders may have heard about it, but they lack a clear understanding. Given their role in spreading the word, we thought it wise to bring them together, explain the program, and highlight their responsibilities,” He said.
Banda also revealed that major challenge is the shortage of classrooms and research is underway to identify suitable schools that can provide space for p classes.
However, Senior Chief Bombeza welcomes the initiative, saying that its a positive shift from previous expectations that children should know basics like holding a pencil by Standard 1.
“I’m pleased with this initiative, previously, we expected children to know basics like holding a pencil by the time they reached Standard 1, but this program is a great step,” he said.
He further appreciates the government’s efforts and pledges support to ensure children attend school. The pre-school initiative is underway in Salima, Nsanje, and Dedza districts, with 15 classes already operational.
