The Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences (MUBAS) hosted a hugely successful clean day on Friday, March 6, 2026, with Blantyre City Council Mayor Jomo Ossman lending a hand.
The event aimed to boost awareness on keeping the University and city clean and safe, and it brought together students and Blantyre City Council Mayor, Jomo Ossman, who showed his support for the initiative.
In his speech, Mayor Ossman emphasized the need for collective action to tackle environmental problems in Blantyre. He further urged those in positions of authority to join him in making the city cleaner and healthier.
“This is a call to action for all of us, including leaders, to lead by example and ensure our surroundings are clean and healthy,” he said.
The main goal of the clean day was to raise awareness about the importance of keeping the university and the city clean and safe.
Mayor Ossman took the opportunity to engage with students, listening to their concerns and ideas on how to improve the city’s environment.
He acknowledged the challenges students face and assured them that he would work closely with university authorities to address these issues.
