CARE Malawi, in partnership with Buffalo Bicycles, has donated bicycles to beneficiaries of the Ntchito Mbambande Project to improve access to training and project activities among young women, girls and marginalised youth.
The donation aims to address mobility challenges faced by participants who travel long distances to attend skills development and empowerment programmes under the project.
CARE Malawi country director Pamela Kuwali said the bicycles will help beneficiaries attend activities more consistently and safely, especially those coming from remote areas.
She noted that the support will particularly benefit girls who often face safety risks when travelling long distances on foot.
“The bicycles will ease mobility challenges for beneficiaries and improve their participation in project activities,” said Kuwali.
Buffalo Bicycles country director Anthony Kinnaird said the organisation will complement the donation with mechanic training to ensure that recipients can maintain the bicycles and keep them operational for a long time.
He said the maintenance skills component is designed to promote sustainability and create basic technical capacity among beneficiaries.
The Ntchito Mbambande Project focuses on equipping young women, girls and marginalised youth with vocational and business skills to help them start enterprises, become self-employed and achieve financial independence.
