A 72-year-old man, Patrick Malinga, from Masaula village in Zomba, under Traditional Authority Nzazira 1, is struggling to rebuild his home that was destroyed by Tropical Cyclone Freddy two years ago.
Speaking to Malawi24, Malinga explained that he has been willing to replace his house but he lacks money, and his business has not been doing well.
“I have the will to rebuild, but I do not have the means,” he said.
Malinga, who relies on selling charcoal for a living, says he lacks the resources to rebuild his home and provide for his family.
He often sleeps in markets or streets when doing his business due to lack of shelter and struggles to afford food.
“I make a living by selling charcoal, but it is not enough to sustain me. I have to walk long distances to sell my charcoal, and sometimes I have to sleep in markets or streets because I cannot afford accommodation.” Said Malinga.
Nelson Kumbani, Village head Nzazira 1, said Malinga’s situation is very tough, especially after his wife passed away.
“His situation is very tough, especially after his wife passed away. We are worried about him and want to help, but we need support,” said Kumbani.Malinga is appealing for help to rebuild his home.”
If anyone can help me, I will be grateful. I just need a place to call home,” he said.Anyone willing to help can contact Nelson Kumbani on 0982036214.
