Pyramid Construction Limited has entered a three-year sponsorship agreement worth K20 million per year with the Football Association of Malawi (FAM) to support a new national Beach Soccer Bonanza, one of the most significant corporate investments yet in the sport’s domestic growth.

The inaugural Pyramid Top 8 Beach Soccer Bonanza is scheduled for 29-30 November in Nkhotakota. It will feature champions from Karonga, Mangochi, Nkhotakota, Salima, and Nkhata Bay, along with three regional runners-up.

The tournament forms part of a broader push to position beach soccer as both a competitive discipline and a commercially viable product in Malawi.

Pyramid Managing Director Abel Chiumia said the company’s investment underscores its commitment to national sporting development.

Citing Malawi’s recent qualification for the Africa Cup of Beach Soccer, he expressed optimism about the national team’s trajectory, saying the country could soon “be talking of champions.”

FAM Technical Director James Sangala hailed the deal as a vital boost to the association’s transformation agenda.

He said sustainable financing is essential for long-term ambitions, including reaching the AFCON finals, achieving consistent COSAFA success, and eventually qualifying for the World Cup.

Beach Soccer Malawi vice-chairperson Precious Mbozi described the partnership as a milestone for a discipline that has already delivered back-to-back AFCON qualifications and a COSAFA bronze medal.

He urged more corporate players to follow Pyramid’s lead, arguing that even modest sponsorships can meaningfully expand the sport’s grassroots footprint and competitiveness.

Mbozi also pledged transparency and prudent financial management, saying beach soccer’s large and growing fan base guarantees visibility and value for brands willing to invest.

Central Region Beach Soccer chairperson Peter Lipikwe added that the tournament has energised teams across the country.

He said the renewed sponsorship would elevate competition and push the sport “to a higher level” as Malawi targets sustained success on the continental stage.
