A 44-year-old man was found dead in his home at Chimwaza location in Dowa District.
The deceased, identified as Jacob Mauachuluka from Chikolokoto Village, Traditional Authority Khombedza in Salima District, was discovered on the morning of November 16, 2025.
According to a report lodged by his brother, Mike Mauachuluka, Jacob had been living alone and had not been seen that morning.
Neighbors became concerned after noticing a foul odor coming from his house and informed Village Headman Chimwaza.
Upon entering the house, the deceased was found lying motionless on his bed, with vomitus present on the bed and floor.
A bottle of Chibuku Super beer was also found nearby, emitting a strong chemical odor suspected to be from a toxic insecticide (Actellic).
Police officers and medical personnel rushed to the scene and took the body to Dowa District Hospital.
A postmortem examination confirmed the cause of death as organophosphate poisoning.
Dowa Police Station has strongly condemned the act and is urging members of the public to seek assistance from relevant authorities, health professionals, or community leaders when facing personal or emotional challenges.
