NRWB restores water supply after major fault in Mzuzu- Malawi24

After days of severe water shortages across Mzuzu City, the Northern Region Water Board (NRWB) has announced that the technical fault that crippled operations at its main water treatment plant has been successfully repaired, and normal pumping has resumed.

According to a statement released on Sunday, November 9, the NRWB confirmed that the malfunction, which had drastically reduced water supply to most parts of Mzuzu, has now been fixed.

“We wish to inform our valued customers in Mzuzu that the technical fault at the treatment plant has been fixed and normal pumping is in progress,” the Board stated.

Residents in the city had faced a challenging week following the initial announcement on October 28, when the NRWB reported a major technical fault at its main water treatment plant.

The fault affected pumping capacity, resulting in widespread water shortages across Mzuzu City.

During the disruption, the water board deployed water bowsers to supply the most affected areas, prioritizing Northern Mzuzu where residents experienced the most severe shortages.

This intervention was aimed at easing the immediate impact while engineers worked to restore normal operations.

According to NRWB, its technical team worked tirelessly to diagnose and repair the fault.

The management emphasized that their staff had been putting in extra hours to ensure that Mzuzu residents could once again access reliable water services.

While the fault has been repaired, NRWB cautioned that it will take some time before water supply fully stabilizes throughout the city.

“We expect water supply to gradually stabilize. Meanwhile, we will continue to deploy water bowsers to northern parts of Mzuzu until the situation normalizes,” the statement read.

Mzuzu residents have been urged to use water sparingly during the stabilization period to allow pressure in the system to build up evenly across different supply zones.

The NRWB also took the opportunity to thank customers for their patience and understanding during the crisis.

Meanwhile, the Board has also reassured customers of its continued commitment to providing safe, clean, and consistent water supply to all areas under its jurisdiction.

It further promised to improve its infrastructure to prevent similar disruptions in the future.
