Malawi’s Mwanza One Stop Border Post (OSBP) has received 490 nationals who were deported from South Africa on Saturday, November 8, 2025, for violating immigration laws.

According to a statement issued by public relations officer for Mwanza OSBP, Sergeant Sophina Chibenthu, the group, comprising 472 males and 18 females, arrived on six buses from the Lindela Repatriation Centre.

Chibenthu indicated that, upon arrival, the deportees were advised on the importance of following proper immigration procedures to prevent future deportations.

Preliminary records show that most deportees originated from Mangochi, Machinga, Balaka, and Thyolo Districts.

However, Chibenthu emphasized that deportation does not invalidate a Malawian passport, which remains a valid travel document unless officially revoked.

Deportation only restricts re-entry to the specific country for a designated period.

“Being deported from a foreign country does not invalidate your passport. A Malawian passport remains a valid travel document unless it has been officially revoked.

Deportation only restricts the affected individual from re-entering the specific country for a designated period,” Chibenthu noted.

The department urges citizens to treat passports with care, as they are national security documents.
