Sudanese Army intercepts drones fired by RSF in Northeast Cities- Malawi24

The Sudanese army has announced that it successfully intercepted drones launched overnight by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) targeting two cities in the country’s northeast.

According to a military statement, the attempted drone strikes were part of coordinated attacks intended to destabilize government-held areas and spread fear among civilians.

The army reported that its air defense systems responded swiftly, neutralizing the hostile drones before they could reach their intended targets.

Residents in the affected areas said they heard loud explosions and gunfire during the night, followed by moments of silence as the situation returned to calm.

The attempted drone strikes mark another escalation in the ongoing conflict between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the RSF, which has plunged the country into a humanitarian and security crisis since April 2023.

The RSF, led by General Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, commonly known as Hemedti, has been battling the Sudanese military for control over key regions, particularly in the capital Khartoum and Darfur.

The conflict, initially sparked by a power struggle between rival military factions, has since evolved into a nationwide war that has displaced millions of civilians and caused widespread destruction.

The army’s interception of the drones was hailed by pro-government sources as evidence of its growing technological capability and resilience in defending strategic locations.

Military analysts believe that the RSF’s use of drones indicates a shift in its tactics, as the group increasingly relies on modern warfare tools to gain leverage in the ongoing conflict.

International observers have expressed deep concern over the prolonged fighting, warning that continued hostilities threaten to further destabilize the already fragile region.

The United Nations and the African Union have repeatedly called for an immediate ceasefire and dialogue between the warring factions, but both sides have continued to accuse each other of undermining peace efforts.

Humanitarian agencies say the conflict has pushed Sudan to the brink of collapse, with millions facing food shortages, limited medical care, and massive displacement.

The interception of the drones serves as a reminder of the complex and evolving nature of the conflict, as both sides continue to test each other’s military strength and strategic endurance.

As tensions remain high, the Sudanese people continue to bear the heaviest burden of a war that shows little sign of ending soon.

The latest incident underscores the urgent need for renewed international pressure and regional mediation to prevent further escalation and restore stability in Sudan.
