The Vice President of the Republic of Malawi, Jane Mayemu Ansah, SC, JA, (Retired), has officially accepted the honour to serve as Patron of Hope for the Blind.

In accepting the role, Ansah expressed her heartfelt gratitude for the trust and confidence placed in her by the organisation.

She reaffirmed her deep commitment to the welfare and empowerment of persons with disabilities, describing the appointment as both a privilege and a personal calling.

She emphasized that her passion for supporting vulnerable groups extends far beyond this new responsibility.

She explained that she has long been involved in charitable initiatives that assist persons with albinism, individuals with walking challenges, and others living with disabilities across Malawi.

The Vice President assured that the Government remains steadfast in its commitment to safeguarding the rights and improving the welfare of persons with disabilities.

She stressed that inclusive development remains central to the Government’s agenda, ensuring that no Malawian is left behind regardless of their physical or social condition.

Ansah commended Hope for the Blind for its tireless efforts in promoting the education, training, and self-reliance of visually impaired individuals.

She noted that the organisation’s work not only transforms lives but also reinforces the national vision of equality and opportunity for all citizens.

The Vice President appealed to development partners, the private sector, and well-wishers to extend their support to Hope for the Blind through financial assistance, equipment, and other essential resources.

She underscored the importance of collective responsibility in addressing the challenges faced by persons with disabilities, particularly in accessing education and employment opportunities.

In her inspiring remarks, Ansah encouraged Malawians to change their perceptions about disability and to focus on the abilities and potential of every individual.

“Let us all stand together to uplift and empower our brothers and sisters who are visually impaired,” she said.

She concluded by reaffirming that disability is not inability and called on the nation to promote inclusion, compassion, and equal opportunities for all.

The appointment of Ansah as Patron of Hope for the Blind is expected to strengthen the organisation’s visibility and advocacy efforts, while further cementing Malawi’s commitment to an inclusive and equitable society.
