Glady’s Banda, a 32 year old mother of three, from Chinsewu village, Traditional Authority Machinjiri is facing immense challenges after her husband abandoned her and their children in pursuit of a better life in South Africa.
In an interview with Malawi24, Glady’s shared her struggles and determination to provide for her family. she ventures into the surrounding areas with her children to collect stones for making quarry.
It is a task that requires effort and dedication. She faces significant hardships, struggling to make ends meet as the income from selling quarry is not enough to cover her family’s daily needs.
“I have accepted that I am doing this job though am not happy with it, but I did it because I was lacking money, food and so many things.” she said.
Grinding stones into quarry is Glady’s daily reality, a backbreaking task that barely puts food on the table.
Despite her tireless efforts, she faces numerous challenges, including injuries from the hammer and the harsh conditions of the work.
“I am doing it just to have food for the day, I get injured with the hammer by clashing my hands. Another big problem is that when grinding these stones, eyes are not much protected, so tiny stone particles get into the eye which is very bad,” she said.
The condition of her house reflects the harsh reality of her life. She is seeking help from well-wishers to repair her house and start a small business, hoping to improve her family’s living situations.
“You can see the condition of my house, it is not that good, if well-wishers may support me by making my house to be of good condition i will appreciate it. Another thing is that if there might be someone to help me with capital for business, so that I can be solving some things out of that.” she appealed.
