Minister of Information and Communications Technology, Shadric Namalomba, has urged institutions under his ministry to strengthen collaboration to achieve shared goals and improve service delivery.

Speaking during a management meeting in Salima on Wednesday, Namalomba engaged the Malawi Digital Broadcast Network Limited (MDBNL), Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC), and the Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA) on key issues aimed at advancing the ministry’s mandate.

He said unity among the institutions is essential for bridging gaps, boosting revenue generation, and enhancing efficiency.

“I called for this meeting to engage parastatals on the progress made so far, the challenges being faced, and future plans that need to be addressed,” he said.

Namalomba further assured the parastatals of the government’s commitment to addressing challenges in the ICT sector, including promoting research, science, technology, and innovation.

He added that these initiatives are key to driving industrialisation, expanding rural connectivity, and promoting digital inclusion through the establishment of about 2,500 free public access zones under the Innovation and Digital Economy Growth Programme.

Acting Director General of MBC, Arthur Chipenda, praised the Minister for his proactive leadership and swift engagement with parastatals soon after assuming office.

He said the initiative reflects the government’s dedication to providing efficient and effective services that respond to the needs of Malawians.

“As MBC, we recognise the importance of regaining public trust by offering quality, fair, and balanced programmes that promote unity in the country,” said Chipenda.

Sharing similar views, Malawi Digital Broadcast Network Limited (MDBNL) Chief Executive Officer Dennis Chirwa said the meeting offered important insights into how parastatal institutions in the ICT sector can work together to achieve greater results.
