The Malawi Police Service (MPS) has arrested two additional suspects linked to the notorious zikwanje gang responsible for a series of violent attacks in Lilongwe and surrounding areas, bringing the total number of suspects in custody to seventeen.

The latest arrests, made on November 3, 2025, in Lilongwe, involve Lastorn Malizani (38) of Mangulama Village, Traditional Authority Mkalo in Chiradzulu, and Felix Makenga (28) of Kainja Village, Traditional Authority Tsabango in Lilongwe.

They join fifteen others already arrested, including the alleged ringleader Bruno Munlo Makina (37), who, together with his accomplices, has already appeared in court.

According to the Deputy Public Relations Officer for MPS, Superintendent Alfred Chimthere, the arrests demonstrate the police’s determination to bring all perpetrators of violent crime to justice and restore peace in affected communities.

He said investigations are ongoing to track down any remaining members of the zikwanje gang and ensure safety for Lilongwe residents.
