Nsanje South West Member of Parliament Walter Nyamilandu, who won his seat as an independent candidate before joining the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), has pledged his full support in Parliament.
Speaking on Tuesday after being sworn in, Nyamilandu explained that his decision to run as an independent was a strategic move to secure victory, but his allegiance has always been with the DPP.
“I have always been DPP at heart. I stood as an independent candidate for strategic reasons, but I have made it clear that I will support DPP in Parliament. My loyalty has always been blue in my blood,” Nyamilandu said.
He emphasized that his alignment with the DPP was expected by both his supporters and the party itself. During his campaign, he actively advocated for DPP policies and expressed excitement at formally joining the party following his election victory.
Being sworn in marks a significant milestone not only for Nyamilandu but also for the constituents of Nsanje South West. “Today is a great day for the people of Nsanje South West. They voted, and their wishes have been realized. I am honored to represent their voice in Parliament,” he said.
Looking ahead, Nyamilandu outlined his priorities for the constituency, placing immediate focus on addressing hunger. “Hunger is severe in our communities. People are sleeping on empty stomachs. I am encouraged that the President has pledged to flood the country with maize and designated Nsanje as an emergency zone. This will make it easier to ensure food reaches those who need it most,” he stated.
