Seasoned British diplomat Leigh Stubblefield has returned to Malawi, this time as the United Kingdom’s High Commissioner, signaling a renewed commitment to strengthening the historic ties between the two nations.

Stubblefield, who succeeds Fiona Ritchie, brings extensive regional experience from her previous roles as the UK’s Deputy High Commissioner to Kenya and Head of the UK’s Office for Conflict, Stabilisation and Mediation.

In a statement issued by the British High Commission, Stubblefield described her new posting as a “special homecoming,” expressing her dedication to advancing shared priorities in prosperity, climate resilience, and governance.

“I am delighted to return to Malawi and to continue building on the strong and historic partnership between our two nations, My focus will be on strengthening cooperation in areas of prosperity, climate resilience, and inclusive governance.”she said.

Her arrival comes at a time when the UK and Malawi are working to deepen collaboration in development, education, and trade. The High Commission noted that Stubblefield’s leadership will be instrumental in supporting Malawi’s sustainable growth and democratic progress.

Rebecca Fabrizi, who has been serving as Acting High Commissioner since Ritchie’s departure in July 2025, will hand over duties to Stubblefield in the coming weeks.
