DPP’s Victor Musowa joins race for Second Deputy Speaker, pledges to unite Parliament

Musowa

Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Member of Parliament for Mulanje Bale, Victor Musowa, has announced his intention to contest for the position of Second Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly in an election scheduled for next Wednesday.

Speaking to Nation Online, Musowa said his decision followed consultations with his party and former President Peter Mutharika, who encouraged him to use his leadership experience to promote unity in the House.

He explained that his main goal is to bring cohesion and inclusivity to Parliament, ensuring that the legislative body serves Malawians with integrity and purpose.

Musowa emphasized his commitment to representing and strengthening the voice of young parliamentarians, noting that many of them have been elected in this term.

“The key objective is to create an officially recognized youth caucus within the House because, this time, many young MPs have been elected,” he said.

He further revealed that he has already established connections with international organizations that have expressed interest in supporting youth development and leadership initiatives in Malawi.

According to Musowa, these collaborations will help young legislators gain the skills and exposure necessary to serve the country effectively and contribute to national progress.

He has since appealed to fellow parliamentarians to vote for him, pledging to use the position to enhance the efficiency and unity of Parliament in carrying out its constitutional duties.

Musowa’s entry into the race adds momentum to what is expected to be a closely watched election, as lawmakers prepare to choose new leadership within the legislative arm of government.
